why did religious extremism came to maldives?

after the recent bombing of sultan park and the standoff between security forces and religious extremist in himandhoo we ask ourself why did this come to maldives. some would say its due to the repression of the current government. some would say its the bi-product of too much freedom in maldives.
people who say its the result of repression say that because the government have had a heavy hand on everything prior to 2003. and when they started to loosen the grip people started to distrust what the government said and more beleived the religious scholars who said anything against the government regardless of whether its true or nt.
people who say its due to too much freedom says that its because of the freedom some scholars started to eleborate some religious issues that are debatable and went with it.
some others would say its because of the government's neglegiance to educate the people about religious issues.according to them its only recently that the state TV started broadcasting how to pray. and they say the government body to educate the people about the religion "supreme council for islamic affairs " had been promoting government propegenda for so long people lost trust in it hence loosing trust of almost all religious scholars who had any view similar to that of the govenment stance on it and people went for scholars who have contradictory version of religious issues
which ever the reason the government and the religious scholars need to tackle the issue before another incident happens.

Himandhoo terrorost hive?

today the security forces of the country clashed with the himandhoo extremist. from the news photos it seems they are way overboard. according to one news paper it was the worst clashes they saw in maldives. the himandhoo extremist were masked and had swords and petrol bombs with them and they were using it against the security forces. it sems himandhoo is the terrorist hub of maldives the pictures are disturbing and they say say have causgt 3 police officers with them. it brings fears in to the normal persons mind what had my maldives become of?. .exclusive pics @ http://ooopx.info/blog/2007/10/exclusive-pictures-of-the-dot-dheen-vs-copz.html/

Why did they do it? and who are they?

a lot of suspects have been arrested in connection with bombing of the sultan park but we havent heard about the reason why we did it. they say the people in custody have confessed to doing it and they have told why they did it but the police still says they can't publisize why they did it yet. they say they can't say yet if and whether the bombing is connected to any organisation yet. but according to news reports all the people arrested do have long beards and are beleived to be following strict islamic fanatic beliefs. and last night they raided a place where a grouop of muslim fanatic uses as a mosques and according to the news report the police took a some IED's. the police havent confirmed this.
why did maldivians want to blow up places?. and why should they target the industry we are so musch depended upoun?. it cannot be linked to any islamic belief cause islam stickly forbids harming others for no reason. and just because they have beards and turbans they cannot be linked to muslims cause islam is not represented by something you wear or how long your beard is.so whatever their beleif is and for what ever reason they did they could be best described as psychos who needs serious psycological help. hmmm

our peace shattered.

yeaterday would probably go down in history as the first ever bomb blast in the maldives. the bomb it seems was targetted at a specific time for a specific people.they day being the 17th of ramazaan ( the day of BADR" ) and the targetted area was tourists rather than locals do strongly suggests that this was an act of islamic extremist. if so this means that maldives have a clear threat from islamist now. but some do suggest that this may be the act of democratic reform, they set the stage so that it would be pointed at islamist. and some would say that this is the act of government to score points in the upcoming elcetions to score points. whoever did it did a serious mistake. they have striked at the already fragile economy of maldives. it shattered the record we are having as a peaceful place where you can find peace and happiness. this changes the international community views us. the people who are responsible for this childish act should be punished to the full extent of the LAW. they should not come under any pardoning of anyone whoever it is. we should not let any kind of extremism take over this peacceful nation we are so proud of.its good to know that two people have been arrested in connection hope they catch the gang behind this..

Handover the prisons to the military Says IDP

the IDP has called on the home minister to hand over the prisons to the military they claim that when the military was controlling the prison it was more organised. hmm was it really organised if it were why were a lot of inmates dead when they controlled it?. the prison may be in control but will the torture of inmates stop?.there were widespread systemetic torture when it was under the military. i dont think handing over the prison to the military will solve the problem. its not an issue of who is controlling the prison thats the problem but the managing of the prison the problem.if there were a clear code of ethics on the prison then it would be more manageble. the inmates should know what their rights are and when will the boundary stop. and the prison guards should know how they can act to control the prison at different times and when to use force and how much force they can use or rather their should be trained guards to control it.but not of this will work if the prison is being used as a political game by the political parties

DRP Suspends its Deputy

DRP has suspended former attorney general and one of it's deputy and the former justice minister and one of it council member in participating in Any DRP activities. the reason pointed out has been that they criticised the government and its reform agenda and criticising the president. check the news @ http://www.haveeru.com.mv/?page=details&id=58362. how would the Dr Hassan react to this?. and what would be the reaction to this from the information minister and one of the best friends of Dr Hassan?. the information minister is said to be reluctant to accept the post of attorney general out of respect for his friend. lets see how sincere he is

Monday, 24 September 2007

when will the new attorney general be sworn in?

Its been days now after the resignation of the attorney general and still no one has been appointed to the post. all the otheres who resigned have been replaced. in the case of the attorney general ots still vacant. ofcourse information minister us overlooking the office but he has stated that he dont want it to be a permanent post. some newspapers have reported that the president want to divide the tasks of the attorney general some of it coming under the information minter. and it has also been reported that the new attorney general would be the current home minister. the president have said even with the resignation of the ministers government would survive and the information minister have stated that the post of atttorney genral has ben selected and the president will nominate the person after he returned from his jordan trip. it's been days after that and still the post is empty. either the government dosent know what to do to the post or the government probably dosent have someone they can trust to be as attorney general after all the post hold a critical power at this changing times and the government would be very careful who they appoint to the post. the latest attorney general shocked the the government to be cautious in their decison. lets wait and see

MPA unable to cope with the load?

last night we heard that workers at the MPA did damage to the clearenc office of MPA. The Workers unhappy over long wait to clear the goods and other mismangement of MPA ( according to some newspapers).they just were unruly crowd (According to Government Media).all the time MPA says the same thing the Harbour is too small and overcrowding will occur when capacity exceeds. they have been saying that for a long time. the Commercial Harbour never seems to be able to cope with the demand and always space is to blame. how much space does MPA needs?. the whole of Male' ?. the amount of space the commercial harbour is going to be limited cause male' happens to be a place where people live. Why should all the goods that come to Maldives have to be unloaded here?. what is the use of Hulhu Male' ,kulhudhufushi, and addu atoll MPA space?. which law says all goods have to be unloaded to here and redistributed. why cant some goods be unloaded to those sub stations. Maybe if they did that the price of goods in the atolls may decrease.its just another mismanagement of the current administration maybe it needs to have a reform agenda yeah maybe...

Anyone can serve only two terms as president?

the drafting commitee have drafted the section on the president on the constitution as "anyone who have served 2 terms as presidnet cannot be the president again". Somepeople will get overjoyed by the news hoping that the current president will not be able to be president. but some will look at it in a critical way. i happen to be one who is sceptical about it. the thing hasnt been rectified by the majlis and the 29 members of the current president is still in the majlis and even if it get passed the question will be raised as to when would the 2 years be counted will it be from the date the constitution comes into affect or from the time the country became a republic. lets see what happens when the draft comes into the majlis and watch the drama as it unfolds .

IDP says death Penalty for addicts

IDP president has said if he is president he would impose death penalty for drug addicts. well then a lot of people have to be killed and probably there would be a solution to overcrowding of the population i guess. He also said that both DRP and MDP cannot cure the drug crisis and he reasoned by saying that DRP is the party that made the crisis and MDP cant do it cause most of the top level and party activist of MDP according to him are drug addicts. serious accusation i guess if you can't prove it. abig bluff coming out from a president of a political party and from someone eho have declared that he would be running for presidency of 2008.Is what he says practical?. will the people with all disgust to addicts approve death penalty for them and to get the death penalty he would have to endorse it through the majlis will he be able to get the support of the majlis for it?. and will the international community that we are so embedded in approve it?. the answer to most is likely to be "no" than a "yes" http://www.miadhu.com.mv/div/news.php?id=6928

Ramazaan moon Puzzle

ramazaan will meet us in days and the biggest puzzle every year is what would be the first day of ramazaan. the calendar says it is the 13th of september. but sometimes its decided against the calendar. sometimes its decided according to astrological data other times it is decided if the moon was sighted to a muslim nation. the ordinary person dosent have a clue when it would be the first day. sometimes if the astrological data says that the moon wont be sighted then it wont be decided as the first of ramazaan other times its acted differently. some say its decided to the mood the president is. hope the president is in a good mood when he returns from jordan

Will there be a pay raise

the price of everything is going up. the only thing thats not going up is the salary. the fasting season is days away. its a season where the spending gets high. if the salary is not raised then it would be a very hard times. does the government always remembers its people only when voting comes. the salary and allowances of the island chiefs was raised days before the referendum. this proves that there is no shortage of money for the government. do we have to wait till next year November to get a raise?. Hmm what to do. if the salary is not raised then atleast the government can try to control the prices. hmmm

Majlis Miadhu the best commedy show ever

after TVM and radio started broadcasting the majlis people has started watching and listening to these two stations. it has become the best ever real comedy series ever been broadcasted. the acting and the script are world class. but now we are hearing that they are thinking of discontinuing this series which would make the ratings of the stations to decline. hope they continue the show so that we get to laugh our heads off before we go to sleep. at least it will make us forget the problems we face everyday and give us a happy mood. that series is sure to get the best commedy series in any TV award ceremony.

Detail report of the referendum of august 18 released

the human rights commission of the maldives has published their final report on the august 18th referendum check it out from http://www.hrcm.org.mv/files/82__aammu%20sirru%20vote%202007%20ge%20thafseelee%20report.pdf

Is the police capable?

is the police capable of maintaining law and order is a question some will ask. well the safe of municipalty was stolen building was torched and criminals are loose on the street. police took action only after 3 places was torced and after the safe was stolen and police only started searching for loose criminals when all these things started happening. they are supposed to make thse things not happen. they probably should act before crime strike. there are a lot of cameras placed around male' and when something happen its never captured on any cameras. but sometimes they act very swiftly like they stopped the strike organized by opposition party. and when they stop it they use brutal force and filthy language. in these cases they are seen as provokers rather than try to restore law and order. hmmm

What did we vote for?

what did we vote for in the august 18 referendum?. before the voting it was said that we are not voting for if the current government is right or wrong or if we are happy with the current government. it was said we are voting for the future of our country and whats best for the future of this country. however after the vote that had changed. now we are hearing that the result indicate the support by the people for the current government and the trust people had with the current government and DRP. the hard fact of campaign lies are coming out. we are yet again fooled by the current government. some DRP people and the government and the president himself has said the result indicate support for the current government. have they forgotten that 3 other parties also campaigned for the Presidential system and the result may consist of their supporters too. dont they have any respect for the other political party and their supporters?

will the commisioner release the voters list

its almost a wek since the referendum and still ther is no official voting result. the 11 member commitee demands the commisioner hand over the list of people who voted in the referendum. and the opposition published a report saying that 25000 people on the list published by the elections commisioner are people who are either dead or not elogoble to vote. some people say that people who were dead also seems to have voted.if the commissioner released the list of people who voted will this allegation and speculation stop or will it increase?. the result released by the commisioner states that more than 150000 people did actually participate in the voting. this accoridng to the opposition is not true. they say the initial list released by the commisioner include 180000 people while he commisioner announced at that time that more than 194000 are eligibale to vote. and the other thing that makes doubt in peoples mind is while the commisoner admitted that they printed 300000 ballot papers why did they print additional ballot papers for the re-voting of addu. ther are so many unanswered questions that makes people not trust the results

another resignation?

today there was a rumour that Dr shaheed , the foreign minister has resigned. i couldnt beleive what i heard so i did what i always do when i hear such things. try to establish the truth in these rumours.i asked different people about it all of them have the same answer. there is a rumour that he has resigned. so i went through the local newspaper websites. they say he said that he haven't resigned yet.one newspaper even claimed that he had an understanding to make the resignation secret till sunday.another newspaper qouted him as saying that he met the president today and he told the president " i dont want to let corrupt politician do whatever they want" and the president is said to have told " he would all support to pull out the corrupton". what ever the case the fact is something happened today and there are some reservation on Dr shaheed about the government. what did he mean by "corrupt politicians". does this mean that what Dr saeed and jaleel said after resigning is true?. what ever it is this shows that there are problems inside the government and it needs to solve the issues whithin itself. if DRP is the ruling party then it needs to resolve the issue within the party.is this the start of the fall of the current government?. How will the president tackle this resignation issue. will the people trust the replacement for the government. well lets wait till sunday to see if the rumours that are circulating now are true. lets just wait

it seems presidential wins

the vote counting is going on and it seems presidential is winning the race. with the current result it seems 102584 people have voted. it seems a high turnout for voting. well will the opposition accept the results. both DRP and MDP have filed complaints of fraud. and they are reporting that one ballot box in addu havent still been closed and counting has not yet started. what would happen after the final result?. lets see what would happen in the coming days

Voting Differences Chart

Presidential Takes over parlimentary

the result of the voting is coming and it seems that presidential takes over parlimentary http://www.miadhu.com.mv/ what is the reason has the opposition nopt been able to give their message or have they failed to give good information about the voting.

Maldivians abroad stripped of theor rights

it now 3 days till the referendum and their still hasnt been a way organised for the people abroad can vote. every time the president give a speech he says this is a good democracy and yet the people abroad has been stripped of their righ to have a say in the future of their country how very democratic. the elections commisioner blame it on the special majlis.how very good. have we not thought about it for 30 years because of the majlis?. too bad the attorney general resigned otherwise he may have advised the president to do so as he did to make political parties. he did point out that police and army can vote under the constitution and any law forbidding them of doing it is illegal. he must have not known that the people abroad didnt had a say in the running of government for the past 30 years. the oppsition party and the news paper is very good in putting pressure when it comes to the rights of criminals and political people but when it comes to citizens abroad and their rughts they aren't that effective. the country have failed to give the citizens of this country living abroad their voting rights.they go on the street , plan hunger strike threaten the government when someone they support is in custody but in this case nobody wants to do anything. perhaps if there was a member in parliment representing the citizens abroad it would have been a different picture. maybe he might have spoken about it in majlis maybe then when the law of the elections was written he would have made it clear that they are included in it. just maybe

Are we at war or are we campaigning?

are we campaigning or is DRP and MDP at war?. we are seeing daily that campaingn posters of both posters are being ripped off or burned. and now there are reports that people are getting threats of harm. it seems instead of giving the people information about the system of government all sides are concerned more with giving damage to the other side. its more like a civil war situation. i wonder if the voting will be peaceful. these acts may affect the turnout of the voting. wish both the sides get more civilised and try to give real information about the system of government so that the people can decide.there are even reports that some people are being threatened to vote for a certain system or face loosing their job. with all these things happening we dont see the elections commision getting involved or any other office getting involved to stop these actions. what to do....

Shaheedhunge dhuvas or martyrs day

use the right to vote

most of the time we see people criticising the voting results without actively participating in it. we always say its going to be the same. but how could it be. things do change. but its not going to change if we sit at our home and loose the opportunity to make a change. the referendum is going to be taken in 8 days now and we should use our voting right to say what system we want. its going to be a close race this time and even a one vote difference is going to make a lot of difference.if we dont go to vote then we also loose the right to criticise the outcome of it. if you dont participate in it why do you talk about the result?. hope that a lot of people would vote and a lot of pepole would see how the voting is done in all the places. not only in male' the capital. dont let the way of the katheeb be the way people vote. the day of kuda kaafu or bodu kaafu is over dont let that happen. vote for what you think is good for the future of the country. hope the young would actively try to get as much people as they can get to vote on this referendum and make it a decision of every one eligable to vote.

Havent Thought About it !!!!!!?

tonight at 8 pm news of TVM they said the Human Rights Commision are trying to establish a way tomake the people outside the country vote in the referendum. they said the Elections Commision they havent thought about it. what a beautiful answer. i wonder have they though that the voting registry may include people who are dead and did anything to eliminate those before publishing the voting list?. this have been the way we have been voting for the past years. how credible is the result of the vote. did they check the voting result to check if any dead person have voted?. they havent upto now updated the voting list so that someone who died in 1980s' would not be there. they have within the past never though of the people who are outside the country as eligable to vote?. or is it ounce you leave the country you are no longer considered as citizens?. we have been voting for the past 30 years and the elections commision is performing as if they were just established. there are talks that the police and the army can vote in the elections but nobody is concerned about the peolle outside. and even though it was a tradition that the police and army dosent vote can anyone prove they havent voted in the future after all the registry wont state if he is a policemam or an army person. maybe they have voted befor and maybe thats why we get 80% and over in all votes .. yeah maybe

Unbeleivable voting list

there have been rumours around the country that there are dead people on the voting list. at first i didnt beleive it until i experienced it first hand. ichecked my house and my grandmothers house abd i was really shocked at what i saw.i couldnt stop laugfing at what i saw. my mom who had passed away in 1991 is being listed as eligable to vote and i think my grandmothers name is also there who passed away in 1989. they dont have an updated list of the people in the country they dont know who is dead and alive. what can we trust now? no wonder the justice ministry is looking for people who have been sentenced without them being there. probably most of them have passed away decades ago. i am begining to question is 300000 of the people counted with this list?. you never know

Has the reform Agenda Failed?

We are hearing allegation and counter allegaation after the resignation of key ministers. The most talked about about the reform agenda. Has it failed or not?. and there are now questions of whoose reform agenda it is. earlier what everyone thought was that it was an agenda set by the president to bring reform to the country. but in the environment day celebration speech the president had stated its an agenda of the people and if anybody accuses the agenda has failed then they are really saying is that the peole has failed. Is this really how it is?. Is there anything the people can do to spped up the reform agenda?. ..

Government in crisis?

today the shocking news of the two people incharge of law and order namely justice minister and the attorney general resigns criticising the president heavily. this will damage the already bad image of the government further. the latest news was that the armed forces has entered the office of these two ministers and have closed down the places. it had never gone to a level as this after a resignation of ministers. the question now is how will the government get the confidence of the people now or will they ever get the confidence or are we going step by step to a military crisis?. with the referendum in the 18th this cast shadows of whether it will be held or what tomorrow holds up. the nation has entered into a dark crisis time for sure it probably is going to be a rough ride ahead keep up tp date of the issues from these sites http://www.haveeru.com.mv/,http://www.miadhu.com.mv/div/index.php,

how will people outside the country vote?

The referendum day is coming closer and closer and i havent heard any news about how the people outside the country can vote . there are a lot of citizens in other countries and they should be able to vote. there are embassies in most countries.they said that police and the army can vote so should the people outside the country also should be able to vote there should be a way they can participate afterall they are citizens of this country and this referendum is going to decide our future. the future should be decided with their say in it. hope the elections do consider a way to let them vote and make it public so everybody knows how they can vote

29 member removal issue in tonights sitting

the famous 29 member issue is again to be discussed in tonights sitting of the majlis. will the sitting be filled with accusation and counter accusation between members . i wonder when will this stops and is the majlis going to spend all the time discussing the 29 member issue over and over again and will the 29 members be removed with the 29 members given the right to vote for or against it?. after seeing the retake of the forged vote is their enough support for this issue within the majlis to get it passed. the government holds on to the 29 members cause thats the support they get to have their way around the majlis. when will this acting of the majlis members stop and when will they get serious about doing something for the people. the electricity bill for each sitting plus the salary and other benefits given to them is making the country go dry. it dosent help the country if this goes on and on without any concrete discussion. and most of the time the majlis members will say according to what i think. how could they say that they are not there to say what they think they are there to talk on behalf of the people that selected them. well hope this drama of the majlis with MDP and DRP fighting for the role of hero ends and hoe they think of the country before they think of their personnel grievances
