Everybody Wants better pay

It seems everybody wants better pay for the work they are doing. the last addition to the list who are demanding more cash is the lawyers. earlier it was the teachers. it is understandable that everybody wants money but is there enough cash in the government to give?. it's hard to believe that there isn't as the salary of the parliament have been increased by 500% and the Auditor General's salary have been set to a record breaking 100000 ( to do his job independently). with the rising oil prices it is human nature for everyone to demand for better pay. hope our salary gets a raise

Civil Service Will it come to Life

will the Civil Service really come to life on May 1st is a qiestion difficult to answer now. With Major amendments proposed to the Civil Service Law raises a lot of Questions. Already the Civil Service Commision Has Started to giving Notice to People Over 65 that they will have to retire after 1st of May. But the amendments proposed suggest to give them a period of two more years. If the amendments gets Passed then the Letters Civil Service Sent will be a waste. Furthermore the Presidents office have it seems instructed Government Offices to treat the people who are exemted from the Civil Services Commision in the ammendment it proposed to the majlis as Political Posts. The Civil Service are conducting training to Government Staff about the Law and if the amendments got passed most of the onformation would be of no use. hence the Service may loose the trust of the Employees. untill 1st may we will have to wait and see

Toxic Water

Days after the tragic death of five ppl food and drug authority confirmed that the water used for cleaning the fish in the main fish market and the surrounding sea area near to the fish market. the food and drug authority blamed it on contamination of fish waste and swerage for the toxity. the question is what the about the other areas?. is the waters surrounding the male' safe. a lot of waste is thrown to the sea by the dhoanis anchored and even swerage is disposed to the sea. the authorities need to make sure that the water is safe in other areas and if there is the public should know if there is any danger. it would be good to check the track area and the artificial beach area where most go for swimiing to see if there is any concers that the public should know about. if there is a concern it should be addressed. we need to do that to avoid the conflicts between government officials after the mish market deaths that one warned the other of the toxic nature before the incident. its always better to tackle the problem before it gets deadly.

Ammendments to Exclude Friends and Family

The government have sent amendments to the civil service law to exclude a lot of people from the list of civil service. Almost all the entities the government wants to be excluded includes the members of the " favor List of the government". the Government's Proposed include Minister Level Posts, State Minister Level Posts,Special Advisers to the President, Political advisor's to the Ministers, Atoll Chiefs , Island Chiefs, and so on. Most of the people say the government seems to be afraid of loosing the Power they had on the people and the government is not very truthful of bringing reforms to the country and the government always favors Family and friends over the people.
Some People Even say the President may even Declare that civil service is not acceptable for the country yet and may abandon the civil service law.It seems Law is not for friend and family. or maybe most of the Time to attract customers companies are using Friends and Family package and the Government just copied their strategy .

Honeymoon Period for Civil Service

today the much Awaited civil service came to operation. after today it seems that all government staff will be Managed by the Civil Service. I was thinking that today the president would issue a decree postponing the handover of government management reasoning that there are some issues clarified by the majlis as there are ammendment recommended by the government to exclude some more government offices from the civil service. But thankfully it didn't happen that way. However the first day in operation it seems it received a complain from a senior government official on his job reallocation from one ministry to another. May 1st is the deadline for the civil service fully come active. the two months ahead of the deadline is seen as the Honeymoon period of the Civil Service. it would receive numerous complains from the civil servants and it is how they tackle these complains and the challenges they come across that will make the people believe in the Civil Service and its Integrity. lets hope things goes well

Promotions for DRP Members ...........................................

Today we saw two new State Ministers appointed. It seems we are the country who have the highest number of Ministers. DO we really need these many ministers?.with almost 3 days for the Civil Service to take over the Government Staff Management Most of the High Ranking DRP Members are either a Minister, a State Minister or a Deputy Minister.which means when the civil service comes most of the DRP Members are untouchable. Do we really need a state minister to run the Electricity Company or the Immigration Department?.There is No logical reason for the promotions other than to make All DRP Members untouchable to the Civil Service. It want be a surprise if we hear other promotions during the weekend.

Promotion Marathon

March 2nd the Presidents office is to hand over government staff management to the Civil Service and it seems the government is in a race against time to give promotions to everyone who are in the parliament which represents the Elite "DRP" and whoever holds a Influential job in it. some of them have been given a promotion twice within a week.Even Today 4 people are promoted to Deputy Minister level. Most Likely the promotion Fever will end when the civil service takes over or will it?

Will Maldivians Abroad get the right to vote?

The constitution stated before that every Maldivian over the age of 21 can vote. the New constitution is passed anybody over the age of 18 have the right to vote. The constitution never said whoever is abroad at the time of voting will not have the right to vote. But they have never been given the right. In the past the Maldivians who lived abroad have been neglected when it comes to voting. If they want to vote they have to come to the country to vote.even recently when the referendum was held they neglected the issue. There seems to a lot of Embassies of Maldives Established around the world. But will the government use these institutions abroad give the citizens of Maldives to vote in the coming elections. Does anyone care about this issue?. there are a lot Maldivians in Sri Lanka , India and UK and Malaysia and other places. Will HRCM or Any political party act to make sure they get their rights?. or will they be ignored yet again?

Police Commisioners letter

Minivan news published a letter which is said to have been sent by the Police Commissioner to the Elections Commissioner to take action against the biggest opposition party for their role in trying to change the government with the help of a foreign party. and another letter from the Elections Commissioner to the Presidents Office and later to the Attorney General on Advice on the matter.
The interesting Part of this whole letters is that the Elections Commissioner asked the presidents office which is Governed by the Head of the Rival Party. And then ask for legal assistance from the Attorney General. this puts question on how fair the verdict would be to any opposition party. and the other thing thats surprising is that the Police Commissioner is Concerned About a political Party trying to change the government with the assistance of a Foreign Political Party while he puts a blind eye when the Parliament is almost completing the Constitution of the Maldives with the help of foreign experts which bare a lot of their followings.
One would winder trying to change the government with foreign help is dangerous while trying to impose foreign law on People is ok. it reminds us of the old saying "Presidency comes first"

Betrayed Again

When the government decided to raise the salary of the government employees. they originally said that the lowest jobs will get the highest increase. People did believe it a little when the raise proportion was announced although a lot of them complained about the prices of goods not going down and in relation to the raise of prices is small.
Today we heard a news which deepens the complaining. the ministers , state ministers , deputy ministers got a salary increase to the same proportion as the lowest employees got. it seems the government has yet again betrayed the people.it failed to show "fairness to all " and "sticking to their words". proving they comes first before the people. but i don't think anybody will be surprised. its probably what the government have been doing for a long time betraying the people

May 1st a Big Day of Change

May 1st is celebrated around the world as may day. this year its going to be the day a big shakeup of government will take place. it is the day when The first ever Civil Service of the Maldives comes into affect. they have already given an ultimatum for the members of parliament who are currently in the government and holds a non political post to choose either the parliament or Civil Service and they have given notice to everyone who are above 60 in the government and who holds a non political post in the government to retire before that date or they will be forced to retire.Over the next 2and a half month there will be probably a lot of Vacant jobs in the government. But People wonder will it be for the better or for the worse?

Dr Afrashim makes news Again

Today most of the local news websites went to active with a breaking news about Dr Afrashim Being attacked. it seems Dr Afrashim makes headlines after his infamous sermon given about music being legal in Islam. After he expressed his "Views" in a TV programme during the ramazaan he have been the target of what is commonly known as "Religious People". Some people have even questioned if he is authorised by the Supreme Councl For Islamic Affairs to give religious sermons.
Does All the Reason a lot of people dislike make him eligable to be attacked?.

Another New Maldives?

Today the news came that a Movement in the name of "New Maldives" got registered in the home ministry. What would happen to the "New Maldives Movement" that became famous with the former ministers?.Interesting fact is that the movement got registered days after the current legal reform minister stated in his blog that the movement that Dr Hassan brands as new Maldives has no legal grounds. it was never a legitimate registered movement according to him.
The events that happened before the movements registered today as "New Maldives" Makes a lot of people point the finger at the government for playing dirty politics to sabotage support or Dr Hassan's Rising Popularity. Some people questions if the New Maldives Movement don't have any legal Standings why was it not Banned when they were still ministers of the government. why did it became illegal movement after Dr Hassan went against the government?. Some Adds Dr Hassan's New Maldives was legal according to old Constitution and maybe with new constitution it Became illegal. it Would be interesting to know what the people think the real New Maldives Movement is according to their view

The President is Always Right

there is a saying customer is always right. well in Maldives the saying modified to a local way and its called the president is always right. If the president said something then it usually becomes law and anyone who says otherwise is trying to give wrong information. an incident like this happened very recently the president in a DRP gathering said that the special majlis said that the majlis passed a resolution enabling him to compete in the elections and anyone who says otherwise is not giving the right information.
The majlis said it passed a resolution saying that no one who have served two five year terms cannot compete in the elections. if the president is saying the truth then people who says of what the president said in june 9 th is lying. and people who says in the the constitution that came to effect in 1997 had the same clause and later was removed is also lying.
furthermore people who says what the president said in DRP gathering put questions of the independantness of the special majlis is also lying. The president is Always Right

Saturday 19 January 2008

I can compete for another term

the president have said in the 27th annual meeting of DRP the the special majlis have passed the resolution on five year terms so that he can still compete in another election. the opposition have been saying the opposite. The state media also promotes that the president can have another term and there were advertisement in local newspaper congratulating the president for that.
the opposition says he cant compete for another term saying the resolution clearly states that no one who have completed 2 five year term as president cannot be a candidate. how will this fight end. i asked a friend about his opinion as to if he thinks the president can compete in the elections he said yes he can. constitution says that anyone who have completed 2 five year terms as president cannot compete and the president has completed only 1 term consisting of 30 years. and in earlier elections it was kinbigasdhoshugey maumoon who competed while this time its going to be the zaeem of DRP competing. i guess he may be right

Tuesday 15 January 2008

suddenly the question of why

yesterday the special majlis passed that anybody who have completed two terms as president cannot participate in another presidential elections as a candidate. after this resolution was passed a new question was put forward. was the special majlis amending the constitution or is this a new constitution being passed.the opposition says it a constitution was ammended while the DRP or the ruling party says its a completely new constitution.
the opposition says that the special majlis was passed to amend the current constitution and because of the resolution passed yesterday the current president could not participate. and this resolution can only be changed by the high court and even high court cannot change the fact
the DRP says it is a new constitution being passed and the president can be a candidate. they say that they will go to the high court if they have to .
we probably will see heated sessions in the majlis in the days to come. some people suggest that all the problem comes because the current president wants to be the president as long as he wants

Saturday 12 January 2008

was the bodyguards at fault?

the bodyguards of the president has come under a lot of criticism after the attack on the president at Hoarafushi.most of them blaming the bodyguards for not reacting before the scout did. some says there was a very loose security compared to the volatile political situation at the time. some says there should be tigher security for the president specially after september 29th attack on last year. some says that this shows how little the countries security forces have been ready for a threat.
there are others who says the bodyguards did what they should do. and according to them the bodyguards did protect the president and they took the president away from harm very quickly. they say that in a campaign trip it would be difficult to have a very tight security and the bodyguards did there best given the situation.
some even suggest to investigate the issue to see of the bodyguards were in fact at fault or not

Wednesday 9 January 2008

who carried out the attack

The president was targeted with a knife attack recently by a 20 year old youth. he has been arrested by the police with 3 more people. the question now is who did it and why?. the president in an interview to the state media said he dont wont to comment and its upto the police to find out while his spokesman was quick to point the finger @ the opposition alliance. the alliance deny this. some suggest that it was a campaign drama played by the ruling party as it is known to gather support and simpathy to them while others blame it on religious extremist. since 4 people has been arrested indicates that it was not a solo incident and it was an organised crime. lets wait and see what the investigation reveals

Monday 7 January 2008

equal campaign rights

This year we will see multiple candidates campaigning for the presidency , and one would wonder will there be equal campaign rights ?. a lot of this will be tested as one of the candidates happens to be the current president. There would be allegations against whoever is responsible for caretaking the process. Already people are saying that it wont be Fair . Speaking to DHiFM IDP president Umar Naseer said if the president campaigns using his official launch and have full security then the others should be treated the same way during the campaign process.

Free & Fair Elections , is it possible?

the government says they will do whatever it is to make the 2008 elections free and fair. but a lot of people will ask is it possible?. some say it cannot be possible with the current government in place stating that the current president is a candidate in the elections and he will use his powers to make it favourable to him. a government who have been ruling for 30 years which according to some people ruled with and iron fist have tried to forge the elections before and there is no gurantee they will not do it again. and the solution people suggest is a transitional government with independant government.
the current government heavily disagrees saying that the current constitution dosent allow a transitional govenment and all the talk a transitional government to have a free and fair elections is just another way to make lies.
